Some of us never grow up and aren’t we the lucky ones! Symptoms include still believing we can ice skate even though visions of sugarplums threaten to be replaced by images of us in a hospital ER casting room. We struggle to maintain our cholesterol levels and can’t wait for a Peppermint Mocha. With overcrowded conditions downtown, mad shoppers and a big snow storm on its way, there we are looking up at the most beautiful fiery red Christmas tree, totally unaware of any of those shoppers just for a few minutes of our sweet lives.
The love in the holiday season can be found everywhere. The Super Duper Burger makes eating those garlic fries fun. Walking down into the subway to find a chamber music group playing so beautifully, they could be the featured act at the Symphony Hall and yet, there they are, playing just for us for free.
This season, close those computers, turn off your smartphones, head out to see those doggies in the windows at Macy’s or your town’s Christmas pageant. Stop and stare at every beautiful tree you see. Turn on those carols or go out with friends and sing them up and down the street. For just a few days of this year, remember that kid who’s there all year long and give him or her the gift holidays bring. The gift of being alive again.
